Bezanton

We wanted to come up with something special for this unique site in the western communities. This particular lot is the last in a decades-long redevelopment project which has delivered what is now referred to as missing middle housing. The previously disturbed site has dramatic topographical features as well as some beautiful specimens of pacific madrone. Our goal was to leave as much of the intact site undisturbed. We did this by creating an architecture that responds sensitively to its surroundings and by placing parking entirely below grade. Conceptually, the idea for this project was to create a neighborhood within a neighborhood by reinterpreting the definition of attached dwelling. Instead of rows and rows of townhouses with driveways and a network of streets, a series of 3 storey buildings have been arranged on top of the underground parking. Instead of asphalt, the “mainstreet” is a greenway that forms the organizing element and social space for nine free standing buildings. In total, there are 53 units ranging from one to three bedrooms.
